Liverpool To Retain Premier League Title, and the One After That Too..

Hell may have frozen over for a man who supports Manchester United having to write an article like this, but unfortunately, it’s impossible to ignore. Liverpool are going to win the next two Premier League titles, and unfortunately for us United fans, there’s nothing we can do currently to change that.

The side from Anfield bided their time last summer and chose not to make any significant signings, with the only addition to the squad coming in the shape of Federico Chiesa from Juventus. It left many to question the motives behind the regime behind the scenes in the form of Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes, who joined from Bournemouth last summer, and also brought forward some serious questions against the owners of the club, FSG.

Fsg Deserve Some Credit for Liverpool Success

Many Liverpool fans have lambasted the name of FSG since they entered the club in October 2010, but they have absolutely turned Liverpool from a sleeping giant heading for the cliffs of mediocrity back into the world-renowned superpower they once were. Over the next few years, the squad is poised to embark on a golden era in the club’s history, aiming to become the club with the most league titles in English Football history. Part of this achievement can be attributed to FSG and the strategies they’ve put in place to turn the team’s fortunes.

Liverpool are compliant on PSR in a manner other clubs in the league can only dream of. They’ve been to three Champions League finals since 2017, and they’ve won the Premier League twice in that period. Some compared FSG to the Glazers, but the comparison is disrespectful to the owners of the Boston Red Sox and also disrespectful to the United fans who have had to watch their club fall apart under the ownership of the financial leeches from Tampa, Florida.

Wirtzing Towards the Title

To win the league with the ease in which they did so last season and then go on to sign one of the best young talents on the planet in Florian Wirtz, a Bundesliga-winning full-back from the season before last in the form of Jeremie Frimpong, and one of the most sought-after full-backs in the Premier League in the shape of Milos Kerkez puts Liverpool in not just a perfect position to win next season’s league title but near enough to a platform that makes them almost certain winners.

It may seem like this is jinx work from a fan of their rivals, but as good as Manchester City’s recruitment this summer has been, they still have too many gaps in the side to get close to Liverpool next season. The two wide players for City lack the star power a player like Salah has, and with the implementation of Wirtz and the improvement of Andy Robertson in the shape of Kerkez, Liverpool has gone on to another level again. Salah is not slowing down. Virgil Van Dijk is not showing his age.

The loss of Trent Alexander-Arnold will be felt, but Jeremie Frimpong, while he is a different player to Trent, will provide scenarios that are just as difficult to defend for the opposition as the English defender’s passing range. The signing of a striker, with Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak linked, would be the icing on top of an already fruitful cake. If Liverpool can sign someone who puts away the level of chances Darwin Nunez stood to miss last campaign, it presents a margin of talent too big to close in one window for Manchester City or Arsenal, with the latter still failing to address the glaring issue in their side with just a couple of days left until pre-season.

The Gap Is Too Big

Arsenal lack a killer in front of goal, and they also lack an adequate deputy for Bukayo Saka or someone with similar creative flair to Martin Ødegaard off the bench. Liverpool can now replace Wirtz with Dominik Szoboszlai off the bench or even push Frimpong further forward to replace Salah later on in games, with Conor Bradley more than capable enough to be a starting right-back when needed next season.

Benjamin Sesko’s signing or even a Victor Gyokeres would improve Arsenal, but does it improve them enough to close their glaring gaps from last season? Liverpool have that winning mentality now under this new manager too, something Mikel Arteta has failed to instil since he joined the club in December 2019. Arne Slot got what he needed out of a side that finished below Arsenal the season before he joined, and now he’s taking a side into a new season which is arguably twice as strong as the one he just won the league with when compared to Arsenal’s, even if they can get a striker over the line as well as welcoming Martin Zubimendi into the starting eleven.

Manchester City will likely come closer than Arsenal again next season. Tijjani Reijnders is an underrated signing from AC Milan, and a midfield three of the Dutchman, Nico Gonzalez and Rodri at times could be hard to compete with. With Josko Gvardiol moving back to centre-back beside either Ruben Dias or Manuel Akanji and Rayan Ait-Nouri at left-back, City are already ten times more dangerous than they were last season.

That’s without mentioning the wonderful Rayan Cherki. City had a run at arguably the one player, bar Wirtz, on the market who isn’t Bruno Fernandes, who could possibly come close to mirroring Kevin De Bruyne’s output, and they landed him easily without that much of a fight. Cherki adds star power, and if he can live up to his reputation and upstyle Wirtz, we may have more of a title race on our hands than I am currently expecting.

But it seems unlikely, and my gut feeling is that Liverpool will win the next title even more easily than this one, with City clamouring to get back into a position to challenge again next season rather than actually forcing a serious challenge, and Arsenal still failing to push on to that next level. Chelsea are also not expected to be up there again next season, with Enzo Maresca’s side still one or two world-class players away from being taken seriously in the title race.

For us United fans, it’s time to watch in the background and enjoy our journey. Football is transitional, and the sun will shine brightly on Old Trafford very soon into the future, but Liverpool are the kings of the land for now, and if they add Marc Guehi and that coveted striker into the mix by the end of the transfer window, that situation is unlikely to change in the coming years.
