The Perfect FPL Team for Gameweek 1 Does Not Feature Cole Palmer

Picking your team for FPL Gameweek 1 is one of the hardest choices you’ll have all year, but we may have found the best possible selection.

We have yet to see any team in action, other than a couple preseason friendlies, and realistically you cannot take anything concrete from these games anyways.

The real eye test comes in Gameweek 1 and beyond, when we start to see how each Premier League club sets up, how their new signings are fitting in, and which players are going to score big this year.

Well, we may have found the best FPL team to use in Gameweek 1, and it is looking extremely tempting to rock up with.

Best Possible FPL GW1 Team for 2025/2026

Every one of the best FPL teams for GW1 are going to have some similarities. You’ll either have Haaland or Salah, you will have to choose between Saka or Palmer, and you may have to have some low-budget enablers.

Well, this Gameweek 1 draft on Fantasy Football Hub follows the same ideas. According to the Hub’s free AI team checker, going with Saka over Palmer is the most optimal move.

And of course, Mohamed Salah should be your captain. Interestingly, the AI did suggest going with Yoane Wissa, although his current strike at Brentford may see him miss out on the early fixtures if his future cannot be amicably resolved.

However, swapping him out with Chris Wood keeps the rating at 100%, so that is a move we would recommend.

Additionally, another big reason we like this AI team is you can use it alongside our recommended GW1 Chip strategy, which could see you score big points in the early weeks of the season.

Should I Follow the AI’s FPL GW1 Model?

While using tools such as Fantasy Football Hub is extremely helpful, having your own knowledge can really transcend your rank. This is why we suggest using your own opinions supplemented by tools such as the team checker!

As shown above, while Wissa is ranked as an optimal option, knowing his off-field situation is important, and Chris Wood is likely the better choice considering it.

However, being able to see the expected points and fixture difficulties is an excellent way to plan for the coming weeks, so we highly recommend utilising all the tools you have at your disposal to win your mini-leagues.

Gameweek 1 is just a couple weeks away, and we will have as much content coming your way to help you come out on top!
