Bobby Duncan once stood on the brink of football stardom, exceeding expectations in the Liverpool academy. As the cousin of legend Steven Gerrard, hopes were high for this talented attacker. During the 2018/19 season, Duncan showcased his prowess, featuring in 35 games across Liverpool’s youth setups and amassing an impressive record of 25 goals and 8 assists. His potential seemed limitless.
Fast forward to today, and Duncan’s football journey took an unexpected turn—he now seems to work in property development. So, the question lingers. What happened to Bobby Duncan?
A Boy With Promise & An Agent With Greed
As a boyhood Liverpool fan, stepping out onto Anfield would have been the ultimate dream for Bobby Duncan. However, in the summer of 2019, Duncan’s agent, Saif Rubie, took it into his own hands to label the club as “bullies,” stating that his client was “in real trouble mentally, physically and emotionally.”
Ultimately, the club was forced to let their young star go after Rubie’s comments completely broke the relationship between the club and the player. Duncan would go on to sign for Fiorentina, and he would get rid of his adviser just weeks later.
After a failed stint in Italy and a less-than-impressive return to England with Derby County, the then 19-year-old would begin to tell the world he had nothing to do with his move from Liverpool, and it was, in fact, Rubie who orchestrated it. This came after his former agent made comments in an interview with TalkSport.
The accusations from Duncan portray that Rubie acted without advising his client, and his public tweets criticising the club were done without his knowledge. It is a sad story of an agent taking advantage of their talent.
It is without a doubt that the forward, a boyhood fan of Liverpool, would want nothing more than to wear the red shirt of Liverpool and step out in front of The Kop. The actions of Rubie completely derailed the youngster’s career, and ever since, he has been unable to put the pieces back together.
Where Is Bobby Duncan Now?
Bobby Duncan’s most recent football contract was inked with Real Balompédica Linense, a team in the third tier of Spanish football at the time. However, as per Transfermarkt, the Englishman is currently unaffiliated with any club.
A glimpse into Duncan’s Instagram reveals an interesting career route. This account appears to be his as figures like Jordan Henderson and Dejan Lovren, who were his teammates during his time at Liverpool’s academy, are both following the account.
Notably absent from the Instagram is any mention of his current football pursuits. Instead, his bio points to an Instagram account with the handle @DuncanProperty, which, upon further exploration, leads to a link to the company’s website. Although the website seems to be in its early stages with limited information, it hints at a potential new venture for Bobby Duncan.
At first glance, it appears that Bobby Duncan may have shifted his focus away from football, embarking on a new adventure with his involvement in a property-related venture. The transition from the football field to a new business showcases just how fickle a football career can be. If Saif Rubie was never involved with Duncan, who knows where the young talent could be in the football world today?
