Manchester United Set To Appoint Jason Wilcox As Dan Ashworth Talks Continue

Manchester United are now set to appoint Jason Wilcox as their new technical director, after the Southampton director resigned from his role at the club this evening. United finally made their move for the former Manchester City man, and are set to offer Southampton compensation for his departure.

United remain in talks with Newcastle over Dan Ashworth, but negotiations are currently tricky between the two parties. The Reds are aware that having the former Brighton sporting director appointed by the summer transfer window is very unlikely, but they have not given up on bringing him into the club in the coming months.

Wilcox Set for United:

United are moving extremely close to appointing Jason Wilcox, after Fabrizio Romano confirmed he had resigned from his role at Southampton with immediate effect. Southampton were refusing to accept a fee from United, which forced the director to hand in his resignation to fast-forward proceedings.

Wilcox must still serve a 12-month notice period at Southampton, and United have offered the Championship club a year’s salary for the former Manchester City Head of Academy, but they want more. He is seen as a key part of the new structure internally at United under the new ownership guidance. Omar Berrada will be free to work for the club in June when his gardening leave ends, having previously worked with Wilcox at City.

Talks are also still ongoing for Dan Ashworth. United are unwilling to pay the £20 million asking price Newcastle have set for the director, citing the fee they paid to Brighton for Ashworth as the reason why. The summer looks impossible, and Berrada and Wilcox are expected to take the reigns in negotiations until Ashworth is able to join the club. The 46-year-old has a 9 month notice period at St. James Park.

An intelligent move by INEOS, with more expected soon.
