Brighton Secure Igor in £14.7m Deal with Fiorentina: Medical Pending

Brighton and Hove Albion have made a significant breakthrough in signing a new defender, with the Seagulls reaching an agreement with Fiorentina to acquire Brazilian talent Igor.

According to reliable sources, the deal was struck at a base fee of £14.7 million (€17 million) with potential add-ons amounting to £2.6 million (€3 million). The 25-year-old defender is expected to sign a four-year contract with the Premier League club, subject to a successful medical.

Respected journalist Charlie Parker Turner confirmed that Brighton have secured Igor’s services and are set to welcome him in the coming days.

The Brazilian will travel to Brighton on Monday to finalize the move, with his medical likely to take place on Tuesday, though the exact schedule remains subject to confirmation.

Despite this move, Brighton’s pursuit of Levi Colwill continues to be a priority for the club. The addition of Igor provides a top-quality safety net, offering valuable depth and versatility to the Seagulls’ centre-back options but the club still remains determined to secure Colwill.

Igor’s signing is seen as a strategic move to ensure the team’s strength in depth even if the pursuit of the English defender faces further hurdles in negotiations with Chelsea.

Unfortunately, due to time constraints and visa complications, Igor will not be able to feature in the Premier League Summer Series and will not be able to link up with the squad until their return to the UK.

Nevertheless, his imminent move to Brighton has now seemingly been confirmed by the player himself, expressing gratitude to his current club and fans.

“I’ll miss Florence and Fiorentina, this club is special. Thanks to all Fiorentina fans,” said Igor.

Brighton manager, Roberto De Zerbi, has long been an admirer of Igor’s talents, and he eagerly awaits the player’s arrival. “He’s a player I really like”, De Zerbi said.

The 25-year-old Brazilian played a pivotal role for Fiorentina last season, making 30 appearances across Serie A and the Coppa Italia. Igor provides similar attributes to Colwill, a commanding presence both physically and aerially. He won 3 aerial duels per 90 minutes in Serie A last campaign.

In possession, Igor boasts a tidy technique and posted an 88% pass completion rate. He is adept at short distribution, moving the ball laterally to build attacks. It appears he is the definition of a ‘De Zerbi player’ and will be a big addition ahead of a big season for the Seagulls.
